How do I get started with TimeKM™?
TimeKM™ is an independent software system designed to operate with most financial and accounting systems used by law firms. It has excellent import capabilities to allow firms to import client and matter lookup and validation lists into TimeKM™, as well as export functionality to upload billing information from TimeKM™ back into financial systems. TimeKM™ connects easily to your firm's Intranet, but an Intranet is not needed to get started.
Is TimeKM™ easy to learn?
TimeKM™ is designed to be intuitive to both lawyers and their assistants. Most people are ready to start using it after less than 15 minutes of training.
What is Knowledge Management?
In Knowledge Management (KM), an organization seeks to leverage its collective knowledge and expertise for the benefit of all members and clients. The primary objective of Knowledge Management is to uncover and exploit the firm's intellectual assets of information and experience to increase the velocity of innovation and responsiveness (definition by Delphi Group). Every law firm's challenge is to gather qualified useful information from busy, preoccupied lawyers and transform it into usable knowledge. This is more easily said than done.
Law firms now realize that knowledge management cannot be a separate process. To be effective, a KM process must attach to or become embedded in the normal work processes and information intersections of the firm. By connecting to regular business processes, KM can tap the flow of information to create accessible knowledge bases.
What is Knowledge Funneling?
Knowledge Funneling is part of an overall Knowledge Management (KM) strategy. Knowledge Funneling recognizes that the best time and place to gather and leverage information is when and where work is being done. It creates an environment where information can be gathered and exchanged naturally while performing daily business activities. It assists the individual to do better work while leveraging the resources of the collective organization for the benefit of each individual lawyer.
By embedding means to collect knowledge or expertise within daily work processes, the firm can channel or "funnel" knowledge from multiple sources. Both the lawyer and organization can co-benefit from better work product, more innovation, more profit, more productivity, and higher retention of associates.
